Limerick netted three goals in the space of seven minutes to come from behind and hand Clare a 3-15 to 1-18 in the opening game of this year’s Munster senior hurling championship.
Played in glorious conditions at Cusack Park, Ennis, the home side looked like continuing their superb league form in this one after having netted an Aidan McCarthy goal on the half-hour mark that sent them towards a 1-10 to 0-8 interval lead.
From there, the Banner men pushed on towards an eight-point lead and looked on their way towards a win over the All-Ireland champions until a long ball into their square was flicked to the net by Aaron Gillane in the 58th minute.
Limerick smelled blood in the water after that and hit the front when Donnacha O Dailaigh crashed another one in from an angle before Gillane got his second goal from close range seconds later to all but seal the comeback victory for the holders.
