Cavan v Roscommon

All this muck about 'first' and 'second' string teams, Its a panel of 30 plus!!! If Roscommon don't have that (and apparently they dont or at least didnt have on Saturday night) then they are going to be in trouble come championship..

ah lads quick bickering. . It wasnt pretty and all this cloak and dagger crap about first string and second string teams is pure B.S !!
It was 15 v 15 on saturday night and the 15 + that played for each team were the first 15 for that game. end of !!
At the end of the day, we achieved our goal - promotion to div two. Do we really care what the Roscommon supporters think? I don't.
Anything from now on is a bomus. Promotion achieved and another positive step in the development of Cavan football has been achieved despite all the illness of the black death and vicous rumours about players.
Next step in the development is wed night with the u21's, then Limerinck, the Roscommon in Croke park and Armagh in the championship. One positive step at a time

Would be great to have 7 wins on the board in Limerick. Not many do that in the League..

Good win even tho if was against a weakened Roscommon team. Little to be learned but keeps the momentum going.

Eh? we lost by just 3 points away from home playing all the second half with 14 men and missed penalty. Not to mention how poorly we played on the night.

Too many ifs and maybe's going on here with neither team showing their full hand. Whatever about Roscommon, We will learn a lot from that game. Our breakdown at midfield was especially poor and we did not give our full forward line enough ball. By about 20 minutes we managed to read the short quick passing game that Roscommon used in their forward line. Our shooting was poor. In saying that we defended well and great to see fringe players like Chris Conroy and Packie Leddy do well as well as Toastie back captaining us. Conroy was very lively. Croker will be a different story. Both teams will be close to championship pace and hopefully we will be injury free by then. The Future is Blue!!!

cavan97 nice to see a poster commenting on the game and not comparing panel size first string second string etc etc. Cavan and Ros have done well this year and built strong panels. The only test of the panels will be in championship and next years league against stronger opposition.I thought division 3 was a poor standard this year. Im not an expert on the Cavan team but i know Mackey is a fine player for ye and he runs at defences something our defence struggles with. Was that yer first choice back six the last night? they really put a choke hold on forwards .It will be very interesting to see how our first choice six foward get on against them.

Well said. It's about what's ahead of Cavan and Roscommon now. The quicker we forget about last Saturday night the better. Division 2 is going to be a serious reality check for both of us regardless of which of us win in Croke Park. It's hard to say what exactly our team will be for the championship and I think we've given 36 players a run in this league so far. I'm sure you've done something similar. I think the championship will tell us what our best starting 15 is and I expect to see a more settled Cavan team for Division 2 next year. There's at least another year of development for both teams before they can challenge the big guns. Luckily we have quality U21s coming through but we need a backbone of older players to build on.

A win is a win doesn't matter who it's against, valuable game time for Alan Clarke and gud to see leddy & conroy gettin a run can't do them any harm, it's all positive stuff lads. Any word why Rory dunne came off was he injured?

Rory Dunne was on a yellow. good decision I thought to take him off.

Not sure if that will be our starting 6 or not. there are about 10 players there vying for 6 spots in the back.
I would say McEnroe would be in there somewhere, possibly Jason McLoughlin if he is fit. possibly Killian Clarke, (those 3 guys were first choice last year).

cavan limerick game changed from sunday till saturday. Once again, i'm sure the county boards took club players into account when making the decision..another sat night/sunday ruined at short notice. And surely you'd get more of a crowd able to travel to limerick on a sunday

Rory was on a yellow card after his dust up with doine shine (i think was the rossie player). So with the rossies down a player after kilbride was sent off there could have been an opportunity for the ref to even up the numbers ... Might of had an injury either but seemed ok when he came of. I think its the management learning and adapting and it was a good call.

my opinion is that the back 6 ultimately will be
Rory Dunne
Jason McLaughlin
Killian Clarke
Dara McVitty
Alan Clarke
James McEnroe

forwards
Keating
McDermott
Givney
Argue
Mackey
M Reilly

although it is difficult to see the final 15 with may others there or thereabouts

Really DD10 you would go without Dunne the 2nd highest scorer in the country last year?

No Hayes in defence? A player who has had started every game for Cavan this year.. McVeety hasn't played any Senior football with Cavan this year - due to unjury earlier in the year and obviously u21 commitments.

yes - not sure he can against better teams and cant win any ball- if we care to move forward we need more - he would be (in my opinion) a good impact sub

I did say ultimately - looking at this year you are probably right
looking at getting promoted in div 2 and the team moving on in the championship 2015/2016 then I think current ability/potential says
players like K Clarke, McLaughlin, Argue, mcVitty (and a number of others)are where we need to go

while I do feel some there now are doing very well but may not have the scope to step up even further
(and I wont name names as this I accept is very subjective and as I posted above difficult to gauge)

In fairness to Hayes he got player of the year with UCD in 2012, Rory O Carroll, Cian O Sullivan were some of the players on that team
