Con, having paid in to support Cavan that day I feel I have every right to draw my own conclusions based on the evidence I witnessed. You don't need to be in the inner circle to have deduced that he was delighted with his pointed free against us. Your defence of him is admirable from a human perspective, and I'm sure that you are right in saying that it was a very stressful time for him. Probably still is. ondforty (Cavan) - Posts: 460 - 22/08/2013 14:36:50 1465790 Link 0 |
Yes I have no doubt he would be given fair consideration by management, and that is half of what needs to happen. The attitude of the supporters and clubs need to change and I am reluctantly basing this on the Celt survey (which is NOT a true representative sample of supporters opinion may I add). The dropping of Seanie Johnson was a draconian move and most would say punitive. The guy lives and breathes football and he was faced with the decision of sitting out his best years. This is important: he didn't choose to put himself in that predicament, and others have to take responsibility for their part. How he reacted is what people are solely focusing on. It was misguided and short-sighted to seek a transfer, particularly in light of Cian Mackey's year. Hindsight is overrated however, and wise men learn from their mistakes. For a player that hasn't played a game for Cavan Gaels yet (sill waiting for the transfer to go through) - you are fairly getting ahead of yourself Con. Plenty of others having been making an impact in the Club Championship. Seanie will be 30 next year. His final year with Cavan in 2011 his performances were very poor. Donegal and Longford in the Championship being the most noticeable. Also poor form with Kildare. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2763 - 22/08/2013 18:31:00 1466011 Link 0 |
Con. You clearly have absolutely no idea about why Seanie Johnston moved to Kildare and therefore you would be best to stop talking rubbish as you have numerous false statements in your last post. I could set you straight but it wouldn't get past the censorship on this forum fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1483 - 22/08/2013 19:07:36 1466038 Link 0 |
Fredflint is spot on here Con. Very naive of you to believe that SJ was the victim, unnecessarily dropped by Val and Terry. Val, as the manager, has declined to comment and you have to admire his dignity, given the grief this caused for him. But you really need to get yourself better informed. ondforty (Cavan) - Posts: 460 - 22/08/2013 19:37:36 1466058 Link 0 |
Don,t know why all this talk about seanie... he could,nt get his place on a average Kildare team... cappy (Cavan) - Posts: 52 - 23/08/2013 13:20:12 1466397 Link 0 |

i heard this from a good friend of SJ. he supposedly said the point he kicked against tyrone was his last in the GAA. he is now back at home in cavan and playing soccer with local team Cavan Town. feel sorry for the lad myself as he was a wonderful talent who didnt stop and think what he was doing when leaving for Kildare. its a sad way for such a wonderful footballer to be remembered for the farce it was. if he does decide to play Gaelic again i wish him the best of luck as i for one would love to see him back at his best kicking great scores like he used to! graveyardshift (Cavan) - Posts: 45 - 24/08/2013 12:47:34 1466946 Link 0 |
A lot of people on here and elsewhere pointed out what he was letting himself in for and what his legacy was going to be if he went through with it. He did and now he can live with it. I've no pity for him but I agree it is a huge waste of talent what he has done to himself. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1483 - 24/08/2013 13:24:51 1466975 Link 0 |
Agree with those who want this thread closed. Do it before it gets even more ridiculous. RoyalBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 198 - 27/08/2013 15:29:18 1469390 Link 0 |
Seanie made a mistake. We all make mistakes. Personally I would love to see Sean back kicking ball with the Gaels and winning back his senior county position. He is a class act when his head is right and would be a brilliant addition to the Cavan squad.Yes we all remember the score in Brefni but we all dont know the full story of his personal treatment by the then management and the county board. He got it wrong by switching to Kildare but we all get thing wrong from time to time. Cavan people are bigger and better than most and real GAA fans would welcome any talented footballer back. It would be a total unjustice to see Seanie Johnson playing soccer and not the game he clearly loves to play and wanted to play by going to Kildare. Cavan will be a better team with Seanie Johnson on board. Quality will always shine in the end. nidgey (Cavan) - Posts: 11 - 27/08/2013 18:18:06 1469581 Link 0 |
I agree entirely. Seanie got bad treatment from Andrews and the CB. Sad to see talent wasted. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 27/08/2013 18:49:35 1469604 Link 0 |
Totally agree with nidgey and Cavan slasher. If Seanie is back playing club football and if good enough should be considered for selection just like anybody else. Mistakes were made by more ppl than Seanie in this whole sorry episode except Seanies mistakes were highlighted in the media. But he is been slagged off left right and centre here still. He hasn't even said he is interested in playing county football for Cavan so why are posters here knocking him. Yes he left , but he never said he wanted to come back. So reserve judgement until he does. IF he does. dirtybag (Cavan) - Posts: 242 - 27/08/2013 21:03:56 1469696 Link 0 |

This forum, like many others works because of the freedom to say what you think in the guise of your username, it frees people up who might not otherwise air their opinions. We have administrators who seek to restrain folk from going too far in terms of intemperate language etc. Edenburt15 (Cavan) - Posts: 723 - 28/08/2013 11:46:39 1469957 Link 0 |
Reality check lads. Seanie Johnston is 29 years old and is a qualified teacher. You can hardly use his youth as an excuse for his actions. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1483 - 28/08/2013 19:32:40 1470486 Link 0 |
I dont seek to excuse anybody, I am cautioning people not to be too judgemental or too harsh. Edenburt15 (Cavan) - Posts: 723 - 29/08/2013 12:21:51 1470782 Link 0 |
