If we stay in Division 2, with the draw falling the way it did, it's highly unlikely we'll be in the Tailteann

Replying To KingdomofBreifne:  "I go to games to support my county and to enjoy the sport. Its a hobby not life and death. You go to games expecting to see a defeat and it clearly annoys you. The comment above about how the Mckenna Cup- a preseason warm-up competition- is the only chance Cavan have of winning anything shows this. If you're going to games with that sort of attitude then you need to rethink how you use your free time. Have you nothing positive to add?"
what positives would you take from losing in our only chance of silverware?

There were plenty but I'm simply unwilling to continue a pointless debate with someone who has nothing positive to say about the team they reportedly support. It was a nothing game in a preseason competition. Who cares whether or not they could have won the competition. What next, you'll tell us we need to change the management. Start supporting your team instead of reveling in their shortcomings. If you're unable to do this, then get a new hobby.

Any news on McVitty - is he on the panel? Haven't seen any mention of his name lately and it would be a huge blow if he wasn't around this season. He was our key player last season up until that injury against Down I think.

You class supporting a team as a hobby?

another strong looking team named by galligan and associates. you would have to feel that our first win of the season will come tomorrow night. Down are no great shakes even at full strength. best of luck to all.

Well yes, what would you call it? Hobby/pastime, whatever. You sound like an English teacher.

Any word on Cian Madden playing this year? Or any other key players from the last few years. Like for example Thomas Galligan. Anyone know will he be returning from his travels?

Cian Madden, Mcvitty, etc, are still on the panel. They may be rested or recovering from knocks, I don't know which to be honest. I think Thomas Galligan is still abroad.

Midfield very poor did not win a single long kick out in the second half even though we had a height advantage on Down. back line cut open on numerous occasions poor kick out decisions in second half three kick outs in a row kicked to where Down gaol keeper was standing and all won by down. Forward play good but again lack the killer instinct why take a goal when a point will do still the attitude.

Cavan really does live in your head rent free if you honestly came onto this forum to post that after a McKenna cup game!

I know it hurts but we have 5 and you have none.

9 point turnaround in the 2nd half..another moral defeat?

Having watched the two games, I must say its very disappointing . We never seem to be able to close out games , we lost a six point lead and then another two point lead in the last quarter of that game tonight . Too many missed goal chances , no confidence or calmness shown when a goal is clearly on , thats the big difference between the top teams and the likes of ourselves . I dont know if thats something that can be coached . Our kick outs really let us down in the second half , we couldnt win a ball at midfield either cleanly or from a break. I know people say its only the McKenna cup but its the same for all counties and Down are a division 3 side this year and we really should have won that game . There were some good performances all the same , thought Oisin Kiernan ( Castlerahan ) had a good game and was prepared to let the ball in early , also Oisin Brady , Kilian Brady & Paddy Lynch showed up well at times. We have a lot of work to do and in my opinion we ll be lucky to win a game in Division 2 - hope I m wrong.

Your reaction shows your hurt though. Appointing a manager with no experience along with a ladies manager. 2 games 2 defeats ..

On reflection, the McKenna cup has been a bit of a mixed bag overall. Still hard to assess where we are at as a team.
On the positive side, we are finally starting to move the ball quicker on the turnover. There's less of this lateral rubbish we have been accustomed to over the last few years. We actually caught Down on the hop last night by the speed of our counter attack . The best football we played in the last 10 years was against Donegal in 22 when we moved fast up up the field.
On the contrast, I feel we have big issues defensively and in goals. I can see us being very leaky in division 2. Similar to Graham's tenure , We don't seem to have any system or cohesion to our defensive play. We bring lads back for the sake of bringing lads back , most of the time they don't seem to understand what to do. The amount of scores Down got with little to no pressure on the kicker. We were cut open a few times and better teams would have banged in 4 or 5 goals on us.
Secondly, for the second week in a row the bench seemed to weaken the whole thing. A few lads last night will be very lucky to make the final panel.. The only bright spark over the last two weeks from the bench was young Emanuel Shehu who at least has a bit of cut to him.
If Ray can get a bit more structure to our defense and get lads back we should be ok in Division 2 but in the longer term it's hard to know where we are at.
