Well I never! Sour grapes from a Monaghan GAA supporter. Who'd have thought it. The state of Monaghan football. Never mind Cavan, complain about why the likes of Blackhill, who were Ulster champions at this grade only 3 years ago are allowed make a poor effort at the league to ensure their place in Junior ranks for championship.

Playing Div 1 is a distinct advantage for Arva, hence how they beat blackhill a div 3 team in Monaghan."
It's not our fault that your league is so poor. Anyway, worry about the state of your own affairs, where a club with the pick and recent success of Scotstown is allowed pick up players from weaker neighbors, just so that they can win some more.

Replying To blueskies:  "Love a bit of sour grapes.
Here's the facts:
1. Arva got relegated from intermediate to junior in 2021. They really struggled at intermediate level that year due to emigration missing players etc. and deserved to go down to Junior.
In that meantime, They have got players back and had an influx of young talent which has made them a formidable force at junior level this year.
Time doesn't stand still lad, circumstances change etc.
2. Ballyhaise were relegated to intermediate a number of years ago . They never made an impact at senior level and deserved to go back down to intermediate.
They have been in a number of intermediate finals in recent years and were not good enough to win any of them even against a really average bridge team. Similar to arva , they have had a number of young players come through that have really strengthened them this year.
It's not that hard to understand lad. Both teams deserved to be operating at the level they were based on recent championship results."
Ignore him. He's just annoyed because Monaghan football has peaked and is going into decline.

Replying To wishfulthinkin:  "It didn't look particularly strong against arva, they must have forgot the bit about having to perform every day you go out when they only got 2 points from play over the 60mins."
Well I'd argue Arva played higher quality opposition throughout the league format thus improving them. Playing better opposition improves you.

Would you like Cavan playing Div 1 or 3 football ? Exposure to better opposition improves players.

My point originally that the club football in Monaghan is very competitive albeit you play your level.

You're saying they deliberately got relegated? They have no county players and only recently had a reserve team. They had no juvenile teams at all to 4 years ago too.

Ye that's why we were in an all Ireland minor final last year, won an Ulster minor in 2018 and 19.

Senior team in all Ireland semi final aswell as Division 1 for 10 years.

Will we start on cavans inter county record recently? Not to mention the club record in Ulster

We have a history and a tradition something that Monaghan do not have or never will have.

Here is the company Monaghan keep London, Laois, Antrim, Waterford, Clare, Fermanagh and Wicklow. Guess what you all have in common. Yes the answer is 0.

Cavan have been in 10 times more all Ireland finals yes 10 than Monaghan so back to bed with you.

Can I just say how refreshing it is to be finally back arguing over nothing with the Monaghan men / women after the endless twisting and arguing amongst ourselves on here for the last god knows how long.

The initial conversation here was accusing Monaghan of been in decline. We are not talking about past glory's here but recent and current.

To be fair, it was about the Cavan Jr. Champs being too good for the Monaghan Jr. Champs

Fair enough. In the last 10 years, Cavan have won an Ulster senior title, as well as losing one. Monaghan minors were a decent team, in fairness. However, they were lucky to get to a final and looked second best throughout. For what it matters, Cavan were 7 up against them in the Ulster semi and failed to kill them off. Monaghan seniors are an ageing team, that's a fact. Minor success rarely translates into instant senior success. Your club scene is completely dominated by an ageing Scotstown team, who seem unassailable at the minute. Monaghan have made the final of the Ulster senior championship once in the last 10 years. You're in decline.

In general Monaghan clubs have done much better in ulster than cavan clubs in all grades. Most years at least one of their clubs get to an ulster final

ulster senior club since 1968
Monaghan clubs in 9 finals victories in 6 4 wins scotstown 2 Blayney
Cavan 6 finals 6 losses

intermediate 24 years on the go
Monaghan 9 finals 4 wins
Cavan 3 finals 1 win

Junior
Monaghan 15 finals 6 wins
Cavan 4 finals 4 wins

The initial conversation was you being upset and looking for excuses that ye only scored 2 points from play in a final.

Postscript, should read, the last time I saw Cavan minors play Monaghan, they were well up and should have beaten them easily. Not sure where the semi memory came from. Main point, there's little to know difference in the standard of minor player in both counties.

Did anyone else notice the complete bias on Ulster TV last weekend during the Ballyhaise game ? It was more so the co commentary whoever he was . I taught it was just me until I heard Donohue mention it .
Felt like I was watching the fan tv on Sky Sports from back in the day.
When you pay for a product the least you deserve is a balanced and neutral commentary.
Paddy Sheanon was on co commentary for the Arva game and as usual was just a class act. That fella who was on the Ballyhaise game could take lessons from Sheanon on how to do a job right .
