Gowna romp home. Kingscourt started very well but fell apart once it started to go wrong. Will be interesting to see how Gowna get on now in Ulster having last year's experience. All evidence would say that they will be easily beat but it is a young team so hard to know where they are at. Will they have to adjust their game for Glenties?

What's the thoughts on the Ulster club games this weekend?

Think Ballyhaise should be good enough to win v Downings. They've been operating at a better level last few years, just didn't get over the line in finals. They should be strong for this intermediate level, but who knows. Downings were Junior recently, and Denn beat them in Ulster a few years ago. Good going to then go and win intermediate soon after. They're either overachieving or have a really good team together. Think ballyhaise might just have enough either way

Gowna one hard to call. That was as facile (but dominant) a win in a final as you'd see. Will that have been good or bad for them? Naomh Conaill are a good side at this level, defensive, but have made it out of Donegal regularly recently. Home at Breffni will suit Gowna, and a good day may see them be able to use their attack. As much as I'd dislike them going on (friendly neighbourly rivalry) there's no doubt that a run in Ulster would overall be a good thing for Cavan what with all their county men. No reason they can't win.

Best of luck to both teams

Oh and congrats to Arva last week, such a good win that lots are complaining about Arva being too strong for that grade. Keep it lit anyway and that title is there for the taking.

Good win for Ballyhaise. Gowna lost with a goal with the last kick of the game. Better team overall for me, but have to see that off when 2 up late in the game

100%. No excuses for not closing out the game from there, incredible that there was a man left free like that.

They showed great character to get back into a game against a team who don't give up 4 point leads as a rule. Then to throw it away like that

A win would have been massive for them.

Yet again another early exit from the senior club championship… our record is truly dismal at this stage…Unless our senior clubs draw a team from Antrim or Fermanagh we seem to have no chance…. Well done to Ballyhaise and Arva on reaching the semifinals of the Inter and Junior…

Just when we taught the Cavan gaa heartbreak book of stories were closed off until 2024:

Brave performance √
Winning position √
Two point lead ✓
Find a way to lose ✓
Fall to knees in disbelief ✓

At what point do we stop calling this unlucky?

In all fairness, hats off to Gowna, they are one hell of a side who show more character than Ramor, Kingscourt etc in this competition.
But it's time to change the narrative, don't become another hard lucky story of Cavan GAA.

13 first round losses in 14 years at senior ulster club level..shows the level of cavan club football. The CB can't paper over the cracks at this level by overloading it with extra relegations.

The CB don't give a hoot about club football in Cavan…. It's all about County football with those bright boys…and they are making a poor fist of that as well….

It would suggest we have too many clubs.

In the 2016 Division 2 final, Cavan fielded 21 players with 20 different clubs represented.

Realistically speaking we should have between 30 to 35 clubs.

The demographics of the county have changed greatly like a lot of counties.

There are too many clubs in parts of west and north Cavan while the opposite might be the case in the east of the county.

Is the opposite the case in the east tho?

Ramor have a huge pick but they have still plucked guys from surrounding catchment areas over the years. (Maghera, Munchies etc)

Crosserlough have the largest geographical catchment area of any team but up until their current crop, they've had zero senior success for nearly 40 years.

I think mergers right across the county could be considered.

Who exactly have Ramor taken from Munterconnnaught?

Somewhat sweeping statement I feel.

You could be right. Cucullains would have huge numbers aswell though.

Likes of Kill, Drung, Redhills, Swanlinbar, Corlough, Shannon Gaels, Killlashandra will likely have to merge in the coming years.

Kildallan while under-performing massively have the population and should be doing better.

Perhaps Maghera, Munchies and Mountnugent may have to merge at some point but they should be benefiting by being commuting distance from Dublin.

The historical issues of Maghera in relation to the supposed Virginia Blues/Ramor Merger leaves them without a significant nummber of players that should be playing with them also.

Well considering the club itself only came into existence in 1976, I'd imagine quite a few down the years.

A sweeping statement, maybe. But it was a sweeping change, albeit it fully justified due to population demographics in Virginia itself.

Donal Keoghan was ratified as Crosserlough senior team manager last night.

His record at club level in Cavan is very very good. A good appointment IMO.

Gutted for Gowna. I thought it was a very high quality match and very enjoyable to watch. There is something special about Breffni park under lights. Gowna showed good patience in the first half and picked off their scores. In fairness how many times have we watched a Cavan team in that sort of game, throw in the towel and say all the best and happy Christmas to you. But Gowna worked their socks off in that second half and did so much right up until the end. In my opinion the most impressive performance from Gowna to date. I'd expect Glenties will give Glen their fill of it

Me thinks you are a bit confused here, are you not mixing up Maghera who is in the same parish as Ramor Utd. with Munterconnaught which isn't.

Just a thought

Munterconnacht and Castlerahan the same parish I believe.

Not sure if Castlerahan rob players from other clubs?

All big clubs tend to do it though.
