Bloody Sunday - 9 Like(s)

Replying To bloodyban:  "I think 'unnecessary' is the right word. Northern Ireland has developed as a separate entity. Its natural political development is in its own space. I dont think Northern Ireland coming into a United Ireland is going to help anybody. Its better off getting on with things the way they are or striking g out on its own with Help from us and the rest of the UK."
Thank you for your comment. As my father always said the Unionists will one day want away from England but many in southern Ireland won't want them or us As Christina Kennedy in the Sunday Times wrote last year, ' a united Ireland is cost we can't afford not to pay'. Economically it makes sense, but your analysis is f>>k you, I live in a nice area of Limerick and I don't want to be associated with you'. I or my father couldn't help were we where born, you were luckly, you were luckly that you weren't stopped by a foreign army, you were lucky that a state didn't try to organise a muder squad in your area, you were lucky that you and your family were born in a society with one man one vote, the your name or religion didn't affect your housing or job prospects, You were lucky Your are a partitionist and that ok, you are honest.... You can be a partitionist in a modern Ireland and I respect your viewpoint but don't tell me that I am lucky. Ní bhíonn meas ar an aonphort.

The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 7 Like(s)
Look any clown could count that there was more than 200 in Navan today, grand if social distancing but, all on top of each other in the stand - this is the kind of poor management and organisation which will have implications for the rest of the country. No one can honestly say that there was social distancing.... Then we tune into the Cork final - a fine big ground and its empty. Well done Cork, Meath need to do better!!

Replying To bloodyban:  "I dont think the ulster unionists are striving towards that goal. Im a proud munster man and have no interest in that 'goal' you speak of either. You should not assume your position is the ultimate one. Reconciliation is laudable, Unification is unnecessary."
Why is unification unnecessary? Is that because you are OK, you are fine and you will be OK - unnecessary - is very strange word to use , please explain

Garvaghy Road Flag At Roscommon V Ardmagh Game At Athletic Grounds - 6 Like(s)

Replying To tomsmith:  "Tomsmith here As one that comes from a border County and that the name spelled Smyth or Smith denotes if you go to Church or Chapel I feel that Ulster GAA could do without these type or flags or emblems which are far to pointed. . We have made great strides in holding out the hand of friendship to the other community in the North and indeed when Fermanagh was in the Ulster final we had the current first Minister in attendance at Clones. I feel the Ulster Council should take a stand on now"
I take it your a taking the **** Great strides ' are you for real?

Brolly on Gooch - 5 Like(s)
I think Joe Brolly wants to be the show... and CW was right in that what way will Joe think and say next week.... but the premise or the argument was right, cooper didn't die, he wasn't the greatest, he was good noone can deny that, but as Brolly correctly pointed out their were many games in which cooper has held scoreless and was anomous... Mcmenamin didn't give him a sniff of the ball and in all his encounters and with Crossmaglen - he didn't count.... At times we look at people with red tinted glasses, Copper was a very good footballer, but the greatest -no!!! - the greatest lights up every game or the majority,

Why are pundits taking it easy on Kerry? - 5 Like(s)
Yesterday we witnessed a fine game in CrokePark... but the result ultimately fell on a cynical piece of work by Kerry, pulling down an opponent as he goes down on goal. Now the Kerry man did the right thing , took the black card and Kerry won the game...................BUT no analysis of this in the RTE studio.... Sean Cavanagh was near lynched for doing this in headquarters against Monaghan, Ciaran Whelan said it was against the spirit of the game, but last night said nothing, Spillane said no Kerry footballer would defend like that, while Brolly went on a whole campaign against the player...... Michael Lyster said at the time that people don't pay into games to watch men being pulled down rugby style.......

Replying To tommy k:  "The linesmen were like ostriches with their head in the sand and the ref wasn't much better sending off the 2 players that acted the most responsibly during the melee. I personally think they were afraid of the crowd of baying Armagh supporters in case they would get any hassle (or even worse) from the stands which is just completely wrong."
Seriously - baying Armagh supporters - women and children Galway won - they deserved it

Big Away Support - 4 Like(s)
Last Sunday Armagh took between 6-7,000 supported to Dr Hyde Park , for an average at least a 6 hr round trip - but according to the GAA over 7,000 tickets have been sold in Armagh for the Kerry v Armagh NFL fixture in Tralee… some support for a county that haven't won anything in near 15yrs

All- Ireland Hurling Semi Final Tickets - 4 Like(s)
The semi- finals are a great opportunity for clubs to bring all their underage to the games . I would say each of the 8 Armagh clubs will go to one or the other semi - finals . Easier for us to get to Croke park than Thurles 5 euro a ticket is great value

Offaly And The Classroom - 4 Like(s)
Offaly can't fulfil their fixture as their entire panel are deemed close contacts because they trained with a confirmed positive case. Up until Wednesday the rest of the panel would have been seen as casual contacts with limited contact in an outdoor setting. However in our schools- these same rules don't apply by the HSC - a teacher can have a positive case in the classroom but isn't deemed a close contact. but if that teacher was a coach and the pupils- players they are deemed close contacts Full sympathy with Offaly

The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 4 Like(s)

Replying To Crinigan:  "I went to one of the semi finals and in my opinion the pairc tailteann stewards were utterly clueless and untrained. It was farcical. I tried sitting with my small family and people kept gathering around me so I'd keep moving to maintain distance (I'm a frontline worker)... I had only gone to the match as I assumed the stewards would ensure that people were well spread out, it's a big stand so plenty of room to spread out. The stewards did nothing. Not only that but at the end we were all herded out together at same time through a narrow slip (to allow next crowd in). The stewards at this time were congregating together having a chat, no masks. It would be comical if it wasn't so serious. There were clearly more than 200 at the final yesterday, almost no masks worn. O Rourke and Brolly can write all they want about how GAA doing everything they can and govt should allow suppporters in etc but the GAA GAA people from Meath to Tyrone are letting the country down and their communities down. That match was brilliantly broadcast on TG4 yesterday and Meath GAA did great job showing matches online but the crowds are an absolute catastrophe and are shameful."
Absolutely correct. But you can just blame the stewards - something was seriously wrong with the organisation, where the seats not cordened off, JESUS the match was live on TV - it looked awful- the soccer people are having a right go at GAA this morning and rightly so - if we got to LEVEL 5, it is these scenes which will determine the minds of those in control - 'Are sure its a co final. lets forget that there is a pandemic!!!!! In relation to Cork, that is individual people not the cork Co Board....

GAA Should Campaign For A United Ireland. - 4 Like(s)

Replying To bloodyban:  "The Windsor Park crowd might say that we left them. The FAI left the IFA not the other way round. I think people are letting Brexit get the better of them. This nonsense of a border poll is devisive and isn't helpful. Its destabilising for everyone and in my opinion there is zero chance the two countries joining."
First bloodyban -it isnt two countries!!!! As Justine McCarthy said in the Sunday Times on the 17/3/19= ' a united Ireland is not a luxury we cannot afford. It's a debt we owe and is long overdue.' The questions must be asked , NOW is the time, It is obvious you have no interest in your fellow Irish man/woman , but for nearly 100 yrs we have been forgotten and ignored.... it cannot continue!!!!!

Ulster Senior Hurling Championship - 3 Like(s)

Replying To preddan:  "It must have been only one year or two years, all through the late nineties the attendances were poor right through the 2000s. Why such a large crowd in 1992 was it a double header? Im not having a go or anything but in general attendances are poor, you cant deny that. and i still think there should be a championship brought back definitely!"
no there was no double headers !! Unless you call the minor final Sometimes 3 hurling matches such as Down defeating Herts in a special Junior All-Ireland But there was great crowds, why Antrim reached the All-Ireland Final in 1989, should have beaten Kilkenny in '92, a very late adrian Ronan goal!! Down won in '92 - first time in half a century and lost by only 7/8 to Cork in the semi-final, Down won again in 95 and beat Kilkenny in the league in Nowlan Park and relegated them, Both Antrim and Down were in Div 1 with both reaching NHL q-finals, competing and beating Wexford, Tipp, Cork etc Hurling was on a high, just needed a title! Question which of the provincialclub deciders has the biggest crowds - Ulster, we have the support at club level. Thee was a massive crowd of 8-9.000 at the Ulster Final in 2019
