Newmarket force under 21 replay
August 15, 2008
A last-gasp TJ Bodie point earned Newmarket a 1-9 to 2-6 draw with Fermoy in the county under 21 'A' football championship semi-final at Mallow last weekend.
The Dahallow side led for long periods, but they looked to be facing a heartbreaking defeat when John McDonagh netted for Fermoy late on to give them a one-point advantage. But the North Cork champions couldn't hold on as Bodie equalised at the death to force a replay.
Meanwhile, Newcestown were crowned South West Cork under 21 'A' hurling champions following a thrilling 2-14 to 2-13 victory over Kilbrittain at Bandon. The second half dismissal of Kilbrittain's Aaron Collins had a big bearing on the outcome as it put the black and ambers under a lot of pressure in the final quarter and their defence was eventually breached in the 53rd minute when Mike Bradfield's goal gave Newcestown a 2-14 to 1-13 lead, and they held on for victory, despite conceding a late Tom Harrington goal.
