Award for Pearse O'Neill

Pearse O'Neill July winner By Finbarr Mc Carthy Cork senior footballer Pearse O'Neill was presented with the 96FM/C103 Cork GAA Sports Star of the month award for July in association with the Rochestown Park Hotel It was an exciting month for the county with the hurlers and footballers turning in some outstanding displays, but Pearse's contribution to the Munster Final win over Kerry earned him the nod from the judges and it was well deserved. Mick Dolan Chairman of the Cork County Board congratulated Pearse on his award and for the manner in which he has played for Cork since establishing himself on the team and hopefully on Sunday in Croke Park he will continue with that good form. Shay Livingstone General Manager of the Rochestown Park Hotel said "Pearse is a worthy winner and his display against Kerry was exceptional and I would like to wish both Cork teams well on Sunday next, we are delighted to be associated with these awards as they pay due recognition to best in the county." In accepting the award Pearse said "I am delighted to be chosen and I would like to thank the sponsors and my colleagues for making it possible and also my family and club for their support at all times." Cork players Fintan Goold, Daniel Goulding and Nicholas Murphy all former monthly winners, and selector Jim Nolan were all in attendance to honour a player who has been integral part of the team for the last few years. Jerry O'Sullivan and Bob Ryan represented the Cork County Board while Kieran Mc Gearey and Elaine Fitzgerald of 96 FM was also present as was Eamonn Murphy deputy sports editor of the evening echo. Jim O'Leary Chairman of the Aghada club was in attendance along with many club members and friends and family of Pearse. Pearse now joins the list of previous winners in the race for the overall winner which will be announced at the Gala Banquet on December 1st.
