Kenny in hot water

Cork midfielder Tom Kenny is facing a possible suspension following an incident which left Kilkenny captain James 'Cha' Fitzgerald writhing on the ground, prior to being stretchered off in the closing stages of the All-Ireland hurling semi-final. TV pictures showed the Grenagh clubman flick his hurl in the direction of Fitzpatrick's groin area during a break in play. Kenny escaped without punishment, despite referee Michael Wadding being close-by when the incident took place. If the Central Competitions Control Committee decide to review the video, it will almost certainly result in a suspension for Kenny, who has an excellent disciplinary record, that would automatically rule him out of Cork's opening game of next year's Munster championship. It would also rule him out of club activity in the coming weeks. Kilkenny manager Brian Cody claimed he didn't see the incident, but was confident that his captain would be fit for the All-Ireland final on September 7. "He's obviously being checked out now to see how he is. Hopefully everything will be fine with him. He had a serious game today for us. I didn't see the incident. I genuinely didn't see it so there'd be no point in talking about that at all," he said.
