Crofton: Cork still suffering Croker hangover

August 10, 2008
John Crofton believes Cork are still haunted by their last visit to Croke Park when they were hammered by Kerry in last year's All-Ireland final, and that Kildare could take advantage in today's All-Ireland football quarter-final. "I feel Cork's experience in last year's final will haunt them for a long time at Croke Park," the former Kildare manager said. "That was the last time Cork played in Croke Park, and I don't think they'll be relishing going back there. "Admittedly, Kildare had their own painful Croke Park experience against Wicklow this year. But after their win over Fermanagh, they will feel very positive about returning to Croke Park." Crofton doesn't believe having to play for a fourth consecutive weekend will be a disadvantage to the Lilywhites. "The only time this is a disadvantage is when you pick up injuries. But thankfully, Kildare have had no worries in that regard," he pointed out. "It's a help that Kildare have the momentum of three straight wins behind them. In contrast, Cork will have to deal with a five-week gap between the Munster final and next Sunday, and that won't be easy for them. "It will boost Kildare's confidence that they survived two tough matches against Cavan and Limerick."
