Murphy out of Kildare clash
August 07, 2008
Nicholas Murphy looks set to miss Cork's All-Ireland football quarter-final against Kildare on Sunday because of a hamstring injury, paving the way for Munster final hero Michael Cussen to start.
The Carrigaline clubman was named in an unchanged team on Tuesday night, but is unlikely to start, while there are also serious concerns over the fitness of captain Graham Canty who has been named at midfield. It's understood that the Cork management will wait until the very last minute before making a final decision on Canty, who is recovering from a medial ligament strain.
Manager Conor Counihan is reluctant to rule both players out of the showdown with the Lilywhites.
"We'll give both players up to the last minute to prove their fitness, but right now it's touch and go," he said.
"Our bench may be strong but if both lads were to miss out, it will be tested to the full. With so much at stake, I'm expecting Sunday's game to be a real dogfight, and Cork will need every player at his very best."
