Stafford, Billy

The Late Billy Stafford We bid a sad farewell to Billy Stafford after a relatively short illness. Billy, an employee of The Mallow Beet Factory for many years, was always involved in the community form his early days as a player in the local GAA club, a member of the Civil Defence, The Pioneer Total Abstinence Association, chairman of the The Parish Committee since 1989 and for a number of years as chairman of The Community Council of Muintir na Tíre. Up to the onset of his illness he was in charge of the weekly 45 Drive for many years. He was a tireless worker for all, interested in everything, a great gardener and, as a member of the local vintage farm machinery group, travelled to County Down in the past few years and took part in the fundraising event to break the world record for having the greatest number of tractors working together in one field. While chairman of the Community Council Billy had the distinction of presiding over the opening of two important buildings in the Parish- The Nano Nagle Centre and the extension to Killavullen Hall- and, when chairman of The Parish Committee, the Parish celebrated the 150th anniversary of Killavullen Church in 1989 and set up the on-going fundraising effort which saw Annakissa Church re-roofed and Killavullen Church completely refurbished. We extend our sincerest sympathy to his wife Eleanor and his family. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis. Courtesy of The Corkman 1st February 2008
