The Late Fr Con Casey The major refurbishment of the churches of Rathcormac and Bartlemy stand as a tribute to former parish priest, Fr Con Casey who died at Nazareth Nursing Home in Mallow, aged 91. Having been appointed curate in Rockchapel and Meelin in 1974, he took over as parish priest of Rathcormac two years later where he remained until his retirement in 1995. During that time, he held the post of president of Bride Rovers GAA Club and became involved in all aspects of parish life. He undertook a survey regarding the condition of the two churches in the parish in the early 1990's, following which he formed a renovation committee. Continuous fundraising saw the churches renovated to a very high standard, the work on which was just completed in the last two years. Born in Donoughmore in 1916, Fr Casey entered the seminary at the Irish College in Paris when he was in his late twenties. In 1939 he returned home to Ireland due to the outbreak of World War II and was ordained in 1940 in Maynooth. Fr Con started life as a priest in Youghal, before moving between Kilnamartyra, Ballymacoda, Dungourney and Ballyhea. In 1959 he moved to Newmarket and became the convent chaplain and assistant curate and as stated above, moved to Rockchapel and Meelin in 1974. He is survived by his sister, Abina Barry of Killeagh and was laid to rest in Stuake Cemetery next to his parents on November 26. May he rest in peace. Courtesy of The Avodhu 13/12/2007
