Barry, Timmy

The Late Timmy Barry We lost one of our greatest members - the late Timmy Barry. Timmy was a great character, full of life, jolly, witty with a great sense of humour. His popularity was obvious as thousands attended his removal and burial. Timmy had an abundance of qualities in life and we in the club greatly benefited from them. Firstly as a player with us he was a fearless, dedicated wing back and went on to win several North Cork medals. Knee problems cut short his playing career; however, when he was playing his opponent certainly knew that he was in a game as Timmy played with great commitment and determination - two traits he continued with for the duration of his quality life. When the Cork county board started its 12 monthly GAA draws Timmy was appointed county board draw co-ordinator. The Club was blessed and greatly indebted to him for taking on this role, which he fulfilled with great commitment and greatly helped with the finance, which is so necessary to the running of the club. He was the life and soul of every gathering and his life was a banquet of good fellowship, manners and a capacity to reach out and communicate with all ages. From time to time these bountiful communications took place at any time when in the course of enjoyable discussions the goodbyes took longer than the hello's. Many is the time when we would go to Thurles, Killarney or Dublin to support Cork. We would be walking down street when a shout from the other side would echo around the town "Gatten", that familiar cry could only mean one thing - it had to be Timmy Barry decked out in his beloved Cork colours. You knew then that you were going to have an enjoyable day. Timmy never missed a Cork game and when it came to ticket allocation he would do his utmost to get tickets for his county board draw clients. Timmy was a great family man and was very proud of his wife Lena and daughters Sarah and Amy. A guard of honour was formed by the club and First Cavalry squadron. To Lena, daughters Sarah and Amy, brothers Billy and Sam, sisters Mary, Ellen, Catherine, Margaret and Pauline, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends, on behalf of the club we offer our sincere condolences to all concerned. Ar dheis de go raibh a ainm a dilis. Deepest sympathies also to the following families also on their recent bereavements - the Ahern-O'Dwyer families, Glanworth, the Delaney family and the Twomey family, Clondulane.
