Bryan, Kitty

The late Kitty Bryan It is with sincere sadness and deep regret that we record the passing of Kitty Bryan, Cork Road, Fermoy who was called to her eternal reward on Monday, May 28th in the attentive care of the matron and staff of the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork. A native of Ballyduff, Kitty was the last of the Higgins family, she was pre-deceased by her brothers Connie, Ned, Michael and sisters Ningie, Nellie and Tess. Kitty loved her adopted county of Cork but was proud of her family roots in her home county of Waterford. An enthusiastic follower of sport all her life and an active member of Fermoy Golf Club until her late seventies, Kitty reserved her true zeal for the GAA. This interest, she no doubt developed while playing on the Ballyduff camogie team and indeed, the Waterford camogie team in the 1940s. Kitty relished Waterford's recent good run of form in the championship and liked nothing better than discussing their prospects and stoking the flames of inter- county rivalry! Kitty's greatest achievement was as a supportive wife to Toss and mother to their five children. Married for fifty seven years, Kitty was by her husband's side as he worked hard to establish the family's electrical business in the 1950s and it's expansion in the latter years by their son, Tom. Kitty's motherly love was evident to the large crowd who paid their respects while she lay in repose; photographs of her beloved children and adored grandchildren took pride of place in every room of her home. This love of family and home was Kitty's enduring trait. Accompanied by her faithful Dalmatian, Kitty was a familiar sight in Fermoy. Her trips downtown were punctuated by many conversations where Kitty displayed a genuine interest and empathy with other people's lives, sharing in their highs with satisfaction and their lows with a few uplifting and cheery words. Kitty's unswerving faith in God gave her a positivism, which she always imparted to others and to which she turned to for solace during her illness. This coupled with her humourous and considerate nature made her a popular and respected member of the community, one who will be missed by her neighbours and her friends. May she rest in peace. To her loving husband Toss, sons Derek and Tommy, daughters Clare, Ann (Ahern) and Carol (O'Sullivan), grandchildren, daughters- in- law, sons- in- law, sisters-in- law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends, we offer our sincere sympathy.
