O'Dwyer, Nealie

April 28, 2003
The Late Nealie O'Dwyer The death of Nealie O'Dwyer which occurred at Plumpstead, South East London, at the comparatively early age of 68, recalls the golden years of gaelic football in Urhan and Beara in the fifties when he played with Beara having first come to prominence with his home club Urhan. After emigrating to London in the early 1960s Nealie continued to play top class football with the Chullian Club which has strong connections with Beara since it was founded in 1934. Beside his great love for football, Nealie also lived fishing and during his visits he used to spend time doing that. He had been in failing health for some time and it mustn't have been easy for him, being such an active person, for him to accept that he would spend his final day inactive, but during that time he came to accept his illness and found great peace. Despite his illness, he visited Beara in the fall of last year during which he paid us a visit during which he recalled the old days in London, the football and the craic. We used to meet up with him in our visits to the Catholic Club in Woolwich. Courtesy of the Southern Star April 2003
