Moore, Willie

The Late Willie Moore In was with regret that I learned of Willie Moore death. His passing has left a void throughout his native Ballincurrig, the Parish of Lisgoold and County Cork in general. We'll mourn his loss. It was an honour for me to have played with him, an experience to have served under him Chairmanship and a privilege to have him as a sincere friend other the last thirty years. His creativeness and idea to create a better club was unparalleled. His enthusiasm to carry out the work by the Club wherever it might be, was never found wanting. As an Inter-County Player, he created the capacity to serve his Club, his Division and his County. A non drinker that pioneered for Athletic Association at all times, epitomising for me all that was best in the genuine GAA Administrator. A hurler supreme, having played with St Colman's College, Fermoy, Bride Rovers, Glanmore, Dooneen Rovers, Lisgoold and Carrigtwohill, Cork Minors, Cork Juniors, Imokilly Seniors and Cork Seniors. He was a family man par excellence, who will be sadly missed by his wife Betty and family. Your C.V. without blemish has preceded you to the next world, where you have renewed your centrefield partnership with Midleton's Gerard Murphy on the "All Saints" team. While below two "All Stars", Willie John Daly and Tony O'Shaughnessy of the 1954 team are still defending and attacking at your graveside. I conclude with the following Poetic Iament. No more I'II join the cross-roads dance, Or mow the blooming clover, Or share the joys with the girls and boys, When the harvest day is over, No more upon the hurling field, Will Sunday evenings find me But far away from all that's gay, And the sport I left behind men Ar Dheis Lamh Dé Go Raibh A Anam JJ.O'Regan Courtesy of the Imokilly People May 2003
