Croker pitch is no problem for O'Connor
September 03, 2004
Cork hurling captain Ben O'Connor says he is baffled by all the complaints about the new Croke Park playing surface this year.
"A lot of people are complaining about getting their grip and keeping their feet, but personally I don't find any trouble," he said.
"I wear the six-stud boots all the time that are recommended and I don't find it affects me in any way."
Looking ahead to Sunday week's All-Ireland final against Kilkenny, the Newtownshandrum flier commented: "I suppose that we would have preferred to have had tougher games, but they still gave players games in Croke Park which we're not used to.
"You need to have a few matches to get used to it there because it's very different.
"As for tough, competitive matches, it was Kilkenny who had those. Whether or not they will be of any benefit we won't know until after the final, but I don't think it will because we're both coming off a long layoff."
