Miskella: it will be a tall order to beat Mayo

Cork's John Miskella

All-Ireland winning Cork defender John Miskella believes the Rebels can 'rattle' Mayo in this evening's All-Ireland SFC qualifier round 4A clash.

The Ballincollig clubman admits that expectations are low surrounding the team's chances of progressing beyond todays' fixture but he's not waving the white flag just yet.

"There seems to be very negative vibes around the county about the footballers at the moment. It's probably not fair on the players," he remarked to The Irish Sun.

"I suppose even when things are going well, the footballers do not get a huge support compared to the hurlers.

"The traditional support base here is predominately hurling.

"You could see that in Thurles a few weeks ago, the crowd that was there, and you'll see it again with the crowd that will turn up at Croke Park for the All-Ireland semi-final.

"For the football, they only turn out for the Cork and Kerry games in Killarney or Páirc Uí Chaoimh."

The 2009 All-Star concluded: "They are going through a very low period but hopefully there will be a kick in them. I think they can rattle Mayo but it will be a tall order to beat them."
