A severe hamstring injury has left Brian Hurley's championship season hanging by a thread.

The Castlehaven forward will definitely miss Saturday's all-Munster second-round Qualifier against Limerick but is unlikely to play for the Leesiders again this summer even if they advance.

Instead, he faces a lengthy spell of rehabilitation, having ripped a hamstring from the bone during an in-house training game last weekend.

Manager Peadar Healy confirmed to The Irish Examiner that Hurley is one of four Rebels ruled out this weekend - Conor Dorman (ankle), Kevin Crowley (hamstring) and Jamie O'Sullivan (groin) will also be missing.

"On the Wednesday night before the Tipperary game, Alan O'Connor, Paddy Kelly, Kevin and Jamie all picked up injuries. It was a big setback. Alan and Paddy are back in contention for Saturday, but Jamie's groin injury will keep him out long-term, while Kevin did an old hamstring injury in the A versus B game last Saturday.

"Conor is back doing full running but he has no football played since the Tipperary game so he won't be figuring."
