Munster club IHC: Epic final as Youghal edge Ballina

November 18, 2013
Brendan Ring played a leading role as Youghal captured the Munster club IHC title with a 2-13 to 2-10 win over Ballina (Tipperary) at Mallow yesterday.

A Damien Ring goal in the closing stages of the first half left Youghal 2-6 to 1-7 infront at the interval. Stephen Stritch netted for Ballina on 18 minutes while Ollie Dempsey's third minute goal set the tone for the Cork champions.

Both sides were reduced to 14-men after the break - Ballina's Brian McKeogh received his second yellow before Dempsey was dismissed for a straight red card.

Domhnall McKeogh's goal left one between the teams - 2-9 to 2-8 with fifteen minutes left to play.

However, points from top scorer Brendan Ring and Stephen O'Brien saw Youghal through.

They now face London senior champions St Gabriel's for a place in the All-Ireland semi-finals.
