Boland, Billy

December 01, 2011
In the space of a couple of days, Kilbehenny village experienced bereavement with the sudden passing of Billy Boland of Geragh and long time resident of the village. Billy was very supportive of all parish organisations especially the GAA, where his son William was a regular player until he retired.

Billy made a huge contribution to the Scor competitions in set dancing and figure dancing. He could always be found on the dance floor on any social occasion. When clubs in the parish used to hold dinner dances or socials, Billy would be one of the first to order ten or twelve tickets, usually for the more senior citizens of the parish. On the night he would then transport these people to the events in his own car, very often making two journeys both ways.

Billy spent almost forty years working in Dairygold in Mitchelstown. He will perhaps be best remembered in recent years for his wonderful display of Christmas lighting at his home in Geragh. This display was sadly missed in the last year or two due to Billy's failing health. The turning on of these lights was always a great occasion in Geragh at Christmas time.

His removal took place from O'Sullivan's Funeral Home to St Joseph's Church, Kilbehenny. Burial took place in the adjoining churchyard following requiem mass, where the chief celebrant was a nephew of his wife Bridgie. He was assisted by Fr Dick Kelly, PP Kilbehenny/Anglesboro; Fr Michael Fitzgerald, PP Mitchelstown; Fr James O'Donoghue, CC Hollyford and former CC in the parish.

To his wife Bridgie, son William, daughter Veronica, daughter-in-law Rosie, his brother and sister, grandchildren and other relatives sincere sympathy is extended. May he rest in peace.
