The Late Mickey Curry

It was with shock we learned of the unexpected death of Mickey Curry on Tuesday last week. Affectionately known as Micky Doyle he was stalwart of our club since the 1940's when he went to all our games in the back of Michael Donovan's lorry, the only mode of transport available at that time. He rarely missed a Monday night club meeting and chairman in the 90's when we won two North Cork hurling titles in 1996 and 1997. For many years with Dam Roche he looked after the playing pitch and always had it up to scratch keeping the grass trimmed and pitch lined for games. He took great pleasure in following our teams and could be a hard critic when necessary. He was a selector on our two North Cork winning football teams in 1980 and 1989. He was also a great supporter of Cork teams having a soft spot for the football team so this year's All-Ireland was a source of great joy to him. He took great pride in the village and kept it near and tidy and could be seen with a brush and shovel most days and was always available for a chat.
Mickey it was an honour knowing you. To his wife Mary, Jer, Margaret and Veronica and extended family, the club offers its sincerest sympathy Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
