Counihan hails Cork's 'bottle'

Cork's Conor Counihan
Conor Counihan made no attempt to hide his relief after Cork's dramatic win over Dublin in yesterday's All-Ireland football semi-final.

The Rebels trailed for 70 minutes, but still managed to snatch victory in injury-time to qualify for their third All-Ireland final in four years.

"It was a titanic struggle. Dublin really put it up to us, as we knew they would. We showed a bit of bottle," he said.

"But we wouldn't want to do it like that again. These fellas have worked very, very hard and have been through a lot. They did grind it out. That bit of experience and a bit of patience paid dividends in the end.

"People have questioned us down through the last year and we've had to dig ourselves out in Wexford, Limerick and different places. The important thing is we have learned to dig and that's something that's been important for the team to know.

"When things get rough we have to get in there and work it out. When you're around that long, it is a benefit.

"Teams like Dublin probably learnt that the hard way. It's difficult but when you look at where Dublin have come from under Gilroy in the last 12 months, it's phenomenal and a serious achievement."
