Camogie: Burns rescues Rebels against Galway
August 15, 2010
Sile Burns kept alive Cork's three-in-a-row ambitions when she converted two late frees to salvage a draw with Galway in yesterday's Gala All-Ireland senior camogie semi-final at Nowlan Park.
Cork 1-17
Galway 3-11
With the breeze behind them in the first half, Galway opened with points from Veronica Curtin and Aislinn Connolly, but Cork took the lead when Jennifer O'Leary netted in the 12th minute.
Galway, however, responded with a brilliant Tara Ruthledge goal and extended their lead with points from Connolly, Caroline Murray and Breda Hanney. But the All-Ireland champions then hit six unanswered points to take a slender 1-8 to 1-7 lead into the interval.
Denise Cronin's charges tagged on a further five points without reply after the break, but Veronica Curtin put Galway in a winning position when she struck for two goals in the final quarter. However, Burns kept her cool when slotting over two late frees to send the semi-final to a replay.
