Deegan and McEnaney to ref football semis

August 12, 2010
Maurice Deegan and Pat McEnaney have been appointed to referee the All-Ireland football semi-finals.

Laois man Deegan will take charge of the Dublin v Cork clash on Sunday week, while Monaghan native McEnaney will referee the Down v Kildare semi-final a week later. That would appear to rule both out of contention for the final, as traditionally neither of the semi-final referees are appointed for the Sam Maguire Cup decider. Galway's Gearoid O Conamha has been widely tipped to get the nod to take charge of his first All-Ireland final this year.

The selection of Deegan and McEnaney for the All-Ireland semi-finals also sees the GAA maintain their policy of not automatically opting for officials from provinces not involved.
