The Late Frank Raleigh

The Raleigh family name is long assoicated with Croom, and Frank was one of the old stock of the Maigueside. He would always recall his young days in Croom, his days in the National School with fond remembrances, the games they played, swimming after school in the solders pool in the well meadow, a climb to Tory hill, the political meetings after Mass at election time.
The late Frank worked in London for a long part of his life with the Leyland Motor Company and the Chiswick Works, the Major Training Centre for London Transport. He returned home in his native shore Croom and the Maigueside district following his retirement. On his return to Croom he took up residency at Honey Pound and in recent years made his home at Kylefea.
He became part and parcel of the sporting life of Croom GAA Club where he became catering assistant to many of the teams participating in all grades. His wish was to see Croom, winning a senior county title.
Frank wanted to relive the actions and activities of his beloved Croom and also took an interest in political life. His remains were removed to St. Mary's Church Croom on Sunday March 28 following requiem Mass. His interment took place afterwards at Reilig Mhuire.
Fr Joe Kennedy spoke of his involvement in the Knights of Colombnus during his six decades in London. Many of the local people who came to know Frank and many friends attended the removal and obsequies. He is surivied by Sister Joan in Florida and niece Agatha Graf. A great Croom man and a daily mass goer at St.Mary's Church has now passed away. A true gentleman, he will be sadly missed by his friends and neighbours.
