Corn Ui Mhuiri: O'Shea the hero for 'Sem'
March 07, 2010
Bryan O'Shea came off the bench to kick the winning point in the second minute of injury-time for St. Brendan's, Killarney in yesterday's Corn Ui Mhuiri final at Knocknagree.
St. Brendan's, Killarney 1-12
DLS Macroom 2-8
It was tough on underdogs Macroom who thought they had earned a replay after Greg Barrett had fisted home the equalising goal a minute earlier. However, referee Maurice Condon kept the play going and O'Shea landed the winner to earn the 'Sem' an All-Ireland semi-final date with St. Pat's of Navan.
St. Brendan's played with a strong wind in the first half, but their 0-6 to 0-4 lead didn't look to be sufficient, particularly after Macroom took the lead within a minute of the restart when Daniel Twomey netted.
However, that lead had been wiped out in the space of five minutes with three points-in-a-row from Brendan Falvey which gave St. Brendan's a two-point advantage. The Cork side scored three unanswered points of their own to regain the lead with 10 minutes remaining, only for Jeff O'Donoghue to fist home a St. Brendan's goal.
But after Greg Barrett's late goal looked to have forced a replay for Macroom, O'Shea made himself the hero by scoring the winning point.
