Rebels eager to cement Division 1 status
March 06, 2010
Cork selector Ger O'Sullivan sees tonight's NFL clash with Galway as an opportunity for the Rebels to consolidate their Division 1 status.
Conor Counihan's charges have already recorded wins over Monaghan and Kerry, and they can put their relegation worries to bed with another win over the Tribesmen in Pairc Ui Rinn.
"To preserve our place in the top division was our goal at the start of the season, and I suppose if we could pick up six points, it would be enough to guarantee that. We are clearly on schedule at the moment, but there are no easy games in the league, and we are expecting a stern test from Galway," he said.
"At the same time, there is an advantage playing at home, and if we get the same level of support as we got for the Kerry match, I believe it will increase our chances of getting a result.
"Joe Kernan will have brought something different to Galway, and he will be getting to know his players a bit better with every game. They will be all out to impress him on Saturday night, so it should be a very competitive match."
