O'Donovan Rossa club notes

March 04, 2010
O'Donovan Rossa player Paudie Crowley played a starring role at left
half back, on the Cork Vocational football team that defeated
reigning champions Monaghan, by three points to annex the All-Ireland
Colleges senior A football championship last Saturday, at Dr. Cullen
Park, Carlow.
The senior footballers' Kelleher Shield campaign started off in
disappointing fashion succumbing to a convincing eight point defeat
against Valley Rovers, in Cloughduv last Thursday evening. Skibb's
hopes of victory were hampered somewhat by the early injuries
suffered by Rob McCarthy and Eddie Nealon. Kevin Canty, scored an
early goal for Valley's which enabled them to hold a five point lead
at the interval. Skibb started the second half brightly notching two
successive points to reduce the game to three points. Valley's
finished strongly in the final quarter to secure their first ever
success at senior level.
Team: Damien Long, Richard Hodnett, Alan Tanner, Eddie Nealon, Shane

The senior footballers enjoyed a succesful sojourn to West Kerry last
weekend where they participated in the P·idÌ " SÈ invitational
football tournament held in Dingle. The seniors were defeated by one
point after extra-time, on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-11 in Annascaul,
by Cooley Kickams (Louth) in the quarter-final stages. Skibb who
trailed at one point early in the second half by seven points
fashioned a terrific comeback with Paul Kearney netting a late goal
to ensure extra-time was required to separate these two evenly
matched teams.
Skibb understandably tired in extra-time but the players can be proud
of their spirited performance against a very strong Cooley outfit who
were themselves narrowly beaten in the final by Dingle. Team: Damien
Long, Richard Hodnett, Shane Crowley snr, Jerry Keohane, Stevie
Cotter, Alan Tanner, Liam Swanton, Sean Carmody, Niall McCarthy snr,
Ger Minihane, Colin Crowley, Noel Kearney, Paul Kearney, Donie "g
Hodnett, Rory O'Donovan. Subs used: Shane Crowley jnr, Donal
McCarthy, Don Davis. A strong club support was present in Dingle for
a successful weekend that will live long in the memory, with strong
rumours that a return trip to West Kerry is already in the pipeline
for next year!
