Cork chairperson Tracey Kennedy is confident that the controversial Páirc Ui Chaoimh pitch will be playable for this year's championship.

The surface cut up badly during the recent double-header involving the Cork footballers and hurlers against Kildare and Wexford, necessitating a switch to Páirc Ui Rinn for tonight's Allianz Hurling League clash between the Rebels and Clare.

Kennedy admitted in an interview with RTE this evening that the pitch would need to be replaced later in the year.

"There is still a final decision to be made on the timings of the works, but it's likely that we will have to repair the pitch," she said.

"We hope it will be fine for championship, it was last year. Even though we had a similar problem it had recovered by championship because the grass was growing.

"We should be fine, May 12 is our target date for championship and we will probably do the repair work later in the year, but the stadium board has yet to make a final decision on timing there."
