"He wanted to play. He said: 'I'm good to go'."

John Meyler says Seamus Harnedy was determined to stay on the field for extra time in Cork's heartbreaking All-Ireland semi-final loss to Limerick.

The clearly-injured Rebels captain ended up limping out of the action seven minutes into additional time in Sunday's epic clash at Croke Park, with the Treaty County coming out on top by four points.

Meyler has come in for criticism for leaving an injured and therefore ineffective player on the pitch in such an important game but says he respected the full forward's desire to keep going:

"Harnedy is a leader and he wanted to play. He said, 'I'm good to go'. You have to respect the player's opinion," he told Off The Ball.

"They had experience on the bench, that comes down to winning minors, under 21s and colleges. There's another two or three hurlers in Cork. We just need to get them and bring them in."
