August 24, 2007
The late Mickey Kenny The death occurred of Mickey Kenny, who was 87-years-old. Mickey played football with the Coolmeen junior team for over 20 years. His career ended as a goalkeeper after he won an intermediate championship medal in October 1959 against Leitrim in Cooraclare. The Leitrim men had seven Kilmihil senior players on their side. The final will be remembered for the excellent defensive play of Coolmeen who limited Leitrim to two points over the hour. The final score read Coolmeen 1-4 Leitrim 0-2. This was the best team to represent Coolmeen since Autumn 1922 when Coolmeen won the junior and senior county finals on the same day and on the same field. The two final's were played in O'Briens field at Moyadda about a mile from Kilrush. Courtesy of the Clare Champion
