The late Joe McCaw The name of the late Joe McCaw is synonymous with underage football in Clare. A native of Miltown Malbay with whom he played much of his football, he is probably best known for his involvement with underage football in Ennistymon and in the Vocational schools structure in Clare and Munster. He resided at Main Street, Ennistymon for many years. A member of the teaching staff at Ennistymon Vocational School for many years, he helped guide many school teams to county success. He was a selector with a variety of Clare teams at schools and minor level over the years and was responsible for many of Ennistymon's underage football successes. He was a selector with the Ennistymon U-12 team in 2007, and on the eve of his death, they won the Clare U-12 A championship title at Cusack Park. He also represented his club at county board level for many years and he served as a member of the county underage football board for some time. Past and present players as well as Clare County Board officials attended the removal of his remains from Linnane's to Ennistymon Church and also were present at the funeral mass. Burial followed in Ballard Cemetery, Miltown-Malbay. Guards of honour were provided on both days. Courtesy of the Clare Champion 15 June 2007
