The Late Thomas Neylon The death took place unexpectedly after a short illness of Thomas (Toddy) Neylon of Sohenn, Dysart, at the General Hospital, Ennis recently. Toddy, as he was known locally was born and reared on a farm in Soheen, which his son, James now farms. He was a talented gardener and was renowned for his work with the horses and plough. His hobbies included hunting and clay pigeon shooting, and he had an exceptionally accurate shot. He loved to follow the horses and hounds, hunting and was an avid GAA fan. In the 1930s and 40s, he won minor and intermediate medals with the Ruan hurling team. Toddy had an incredible knowledge of local history and shared this knowledge with the tourists who visited the stone forts on his lands. Indeed, his knowledge has made it into print as he was interviewed by Michael Harding for his book, Footloose in the West of Ireland. Toddy's remains were removed from O'Halloran's Funeral Home, Corofin to St. Tola's Church, Dysart and following requiem Mass he was laid to rest in Dysart Graveyard. He is survived by his wife, Mary, brother Micko, sisters, Mary (Glynn) and Eilleen (McMahon), son James, daughters, Bernadette and Margaret, sons-in-law, grandchildren, extended family and friends.
