Geaney, Thomas

The Late Thomas Geaney Members of Naomh Eoin GAA club formed a guard of honour at the funeral of Thomas Geaney, Lower Fierd, Cross whose sudden death at the age of 46 caused widespread shock and sadness. His coffin which was carried by family and friends, was draped in the club colours of Naomh Eoin. A well known sportsman, he achieved many success an athlete and a member of Naomh Eoin whom he captained to their junior championship success in 1991. He represented Clare at a number of levels in athletics and helped win Munster honours at Millstreet in Cork. He was also a keen tug of war enthusiast and was a member of the local team which competed both inside and outside Clare on many of occasions. Thomas was an avid GAA follower and regularly travelled to venues throughout the county and country in support of his beloved Naomh Eoin and the Clare hurlers and footballers. He is survived by his wife Mary (nee Walshe), daughter Denise, sons Pa and Killian, mother Eleanor, sisters, Mary, Anne and Noreen and his brother Patrick. Fr. Michael Casey, PP Cross, was the chief celebrant at his funeral mass and he was joined by Fr. Pat Culligan, PP Carrigaholt, Fr Pat O'Neill, PP Ruan, Fr Pat Larkin, Mullagh. His popularity was very much in evidence by the huge attendance at the removal of remains from Lillis funeral home in Kilkee to Cross church and again at the burial in Killballowen cemetery.
