May 31, 2004
The late Jack Murphy The death occurred at Cahercalla Hospice on Wednesday week of Jack "Dick" Murphy, Cahermurphy. Aged 70, he had been in failing health for some time. Jack was a member of a well known musical family and will be remembered for his honesty, good humour, wit and his love for sport, music and hard working ability. He worked in the County Council, doing road maintenance for 25 years until early retirement in 1996. He also worked for local farmers and the Board of Works. It was at GAA games involving Kilmihil and Clare that Jack made his presence felt. Having been endowed with a great voice, he did his own commentary on the game and could be heard at the end of the field. Slogans "Come on Kilmihil" or "Glory Clare" would echo. His remains were removed from Duggan Funeral Parlour on Thursday evening to St. Michael's Church. Burial took place to Castlepark cemetery following Requiem Mass on Friday. He is survived by his sisters Bridie and Mary, brother Paddy, nephews, nieces, in-laws, relatives and friends. Courtesy of the Clare Champion May 2004
