Carrig, John

February 28, 2003
The Late John Carrig Shannon people, and in particular members of Wolfe Tones GAA Club, were saddened to learn of the death of John Carrig in Askeaton. A former Shannon resident when he worked in Butte Knit and lived in Finian Park, he made a big contribution to the local community. John was very active in GAA affairs throughout his life, having served for a number of years as Chairman of Wolfe Tones and after returning to Limerick became chairman of the West Limerick GAA Board, and vice chairman of Limerick County Board. His talents were not only confined to GAA affairs as he was also a great story teller and sometimes poet and was often featured in Limerick Radio with his humourous reminiscences of games and people. He will be greatly missed by the people of Askeaton and Shannon. Sympathy is extended to his family and relatives. Courtesy of the Clare Champion February 2003
