Tributes were paid this week to a North Clare man who died tragically in the United States on Friday, after he was hit by a car outside his home in San Rafael, California.
Brian mcMahon (46) from Kilfenora moved to San Francisco in 1989 and played for a number of GAA clubs there, before coaching his son's basketball and baseball teams. Mr McMahon was an avid fan of Manchester United and Clare GAA. He had hoped to come home to Clare for the recent All-Ireland but was unable to due to work commitments.
Kilfenora GAA club stated, "Brian and his brothers played for the club with distinction at underage and minor grade. His love of games continued in promoting all sports and making sure his two boys played.
"He was a very warm pleasant person and a huge Man United fan. He was loved by many and will be sadly and greatly missed by his friends and people of Kilfenora and everybody who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children, as well as his brothers and sisters and father, Murt.
Mr McMahon is survived by his wife, Patricia (nee Fitzgerald from Tipperary) and his sons, Luke and Rory.
Mr McMahon was one of nine children born to Murty and Bridie (deceased) McMahon in Caherminane, Kilfenora. He is survived by his siblings, Maureen, Michael, Noel, Patsy, Murt, Eilish, John and Brid and his two aunts, Mary O'Loughlin, Ennistymon and Teresa Moore, Limerick.
