Another U21HC title for the 'Bridge
May 10, 2013
Sixmilebridge were crowned U21HC 'A' champions for the third time in five years when they defeated Clonlara by 1-14 to 0-13 at Cusack Park last Sunday.
The winners, who were managed by former county star Niall Gilligan, led by 1-8 to 0-7 at the break with Cathal O'Connor's fortuitous ninth-minute goal proving decisive. It was tit-for-tat for much of the second half, but Clonlara ultimately paid the price for running up 13 wides.
"I think we were the better team, even though we got a lucky goal. We were just that small bit better," Gilligan told the Clare Champion.
"It's been a brilliant championship. Every game was real tight. You can't beat knockout hurling as it really spices things up."
Meanwhile, Clarecastle booked their place in the U21HC 'B' decider following a 2-21 to 3-12 victory over St. Joseph's, Doora-Barefield in Ruan last Sunday.
