The Late Brendan Davin

Those who knew Brendan Davin, Ballyea, Inagh, were saddened by his recent and untimely death. He was a popular and outstanding character and was in his mid-50s when his death took place on November 26.
He started his working career as a chef in the Stag's Head pub in Dublin and on his return to his native county he was employed in the Paclene factory in the Gort Road Industrial Estate, Ennis, for a number years until its closure nine years ago.
Some time afterwards he was employed under a local rural social scheme for a few years in the Inagh area, when projects were undertaken to provide and improve a number of facilities and amenities.
He had a life-long interest in greyhounds and raced dogs at a number of tracks.
One of his greatest moments was seeing his Blonde Biddy win a big race in Galway in 1977. Vintage Black, a sister of Blonde Biddy, which is trained by Breadan for Mike Gardiner of Clare FM, also visited the winner's enclosure on a big occasion. Other dogs that gave Brendan a lot of sport were Blue Mercedes and My Old Mate.
A great mixer, he will be remembered for his many off-the-cuff witty comments about different people and events. His presence brought great life to any company.
A great loss to his wife, Attracta and family, he will also be missed by the group he used to socialise with in Mickey Kerin's and O'Keeffe's in the Lifford area of Ennis and by his many friends in Inagh.
Despite his illness over the past year, he continued to live life to the full and still enjoy his social outings.
He died at home and his remains were removed from Cullinan's funeral home, Ennistymon to Inagh church on the following day. After mass, his funeral took place locally on November 28. The attendances on both days were large and representative and Inagh- Kilnamona GAA provided a guard of honour.
Brendan is survived by his wife, Attracta; son Jamie; daughter, Sinéad; mother, Bridget; sisters, Mary, Ann, Breda,Helen and Catherine; brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
