Is it a waste of time?

(Oldest Posts First)

After a few rounds of the Breffni league, does anyone think it is working.?
Teams are playing with half their normal seniors and there are very few people turning up to watch. Can you blame them?
Its nothing more than glorified Junior B at present. Also the Saturday afternoon fixtures are a disaster if lads have work or some of us trying to do a bit of farming you have to stop everything at lunchtime to go to play a game that no one has interest in, either players or supporters. All you hear is, its only a Breffni league game and counts for nothing
So what do you think ? Is it working ?

I agree, load of rubbish, Clubs voted for other league format, county board turned the vote and got their way, Now we see the results, every team my club has played so far just about made up 15 players for the matches. We are seeing glorified challenge games with no intensity.

saturday games are a stupid idea. Thought the Breffni league might work but realised i was wrong when even management was saying before the games that it was only the breffni league and result wasnt important.

Also dont think the black card is working either..unless it's a blatant pull back, referees arent gonna give a black card. Forwards are still getting away with grabbing a defenders arm and jumping to the ground. And ref (in our last game) gave yellow cards for back chat and verbal's to both teams instead of black card

To have a situation where you can win the league and get relegated is utterly ridiculous. The only benefit is clubs can give fringe players a chance but that's it. Seeing how little is posted about results shows what the Cavan GAA folk think in general.

The only good thing is that clubs won't have to worry about County players not being available, as they will be playimg in all the promotion games. It also lessons the demand on County players, picking up injuries or whatever. It gives fringe lads a chance to impress but the games are effectively challenge games..

It is still early stages of The Breffni League and clearly it is of no importance or benefit to some clubs who are not bothering to field a team and giving their opponents a walkover.

Gowna and Casthlerahan had County players playing yesterday, Flanagan, McKeever David Hyland. A contrast from teams not being able to field teams for it.

Word is Cavan Gaels are giving walkovers in D1A for the rest of the competition, any truth in the rumour? It is some slap in the face to the CB if this is the case.

The Gaels have pulled out as they reckon training is more beneficial. I heard they played a Dublin team in a challenge on Sunday

I think the Breffni League is the biggest farce of a "League" that the County Board have ever come up with. My son plays for a club in Cavan, i won't name any names of course but told me their manager more or less told them that they are only challenge games to give fringe/Junior players a chance to impress. But how can they when they are playing against more or less half Junior teams in nothing more than challenge games. It's a total farce, plain and simple. Also i have been told that Cavan Gaels are not the only team that want to pull out of it and train between themselves of a Sunday instead or look for games in other county's because let's be honest they would be more beneficial.

Think the Gaels should face strong penalties for not fielding v Drumgoon. They can pay a manager 40,000 per year. They are too big for their boots and need to be brought back down to earth. These games are organised by co board .They are important to lads trying to make it onto their senior teams. The people giving out were giving out last year about the lack of games ,now when there is organised games they are still giving out.Cavan gaels need to be called to order.Id take points of them in the acfl div 1a.

THE CLUBS VOTED 4 IT

Actually, from what I heard (and i have no reason to believe otherwise) the clubs voted Against it in the majority, and it was the CB votes from the top table that swung it. Basically defeating the purpose of having the clubs vote at all.
