I am in shock at the state of affairs in Gowna, Once the strongest clubs in the county both football wise and financially, getting beat by a poor poor Drumalee team, an excuse of a senior team in all honesty. What is going on in Gowna? Anyways well done to Drumalee I suppose! mystic meg (Cavan) - Posts: 228 - 28/08/2011 14:42:56 1020648 Link 0 |

wat was the score in dat game?? castlerahan bet em off the park on breffni, and they only kicked a point from play against redhills, how they fashioned a draw against belturbet is beyond me.. lifebuoy (Cavan) - Posts: 628 - 28/08/2011 14:57:47 1020655 Link 0 |

Think the score was 1-7 to 1-10. Both Drumalee and Gowna had men sen sent off, Gowna missed a penalty. Im not ridiculing Drumalee.. its just my opinion that they are not strong enough for senior, however they won the game and fair play to them. If Gowna do end up relegated it would be the end for them i feel. mystic meg (Cavan) - Posts: 228 - 28/08/2011 15:49:01 1020689 Link 0 |

mystic meg Financially strong? Gowna is a small half parish with a small population and have lost a good few players to emigration and retirement and have limited numbers.Gowna is in debt due to a new pitch and dressing rooms. there going through a rough patch but will be back as strong as ever. hoy (Cavan) - Posts: 307 - 29/08/2011 11:19:53 1021443 Link 0 |

Hoy: what i said is that they used to be the kingpins of cavan football both financially and football wise- they USED to be, A club that could manage to get the late great eamonn coleman as manager had the resources available. I disagree with you as I feel it will be a longlong time before we see Gowna back as a major force. I find it iteresting to see new teams coming to the fore....Kingscourt, Ballinagh, Belturbet, Castlerahan etc...Ths can only be good for cavan football. mystic meg (Cavan) - Posts: 228 - 29/08/2011 19:44:54 1022219 Link 0 |

mystic meg the late great Eamon Coleman cost Gowna very little because he had a love for football, the people and Gowna in general. hoy (Cavan) - Posts: 307 - 29/08/2011 20:10:46 1022261 Link 0 |

message for Qyeball88 i think tour away with the fairies my friend,,drumalee are a very average team with very average players,,they havent got the committment and there underage structure does not work as they never have any players from drumalee representing the county,,it will only be a matter of time before drumalee are relegated back down to intermediate where they belong with the likes of ballyhaise,,crosserlough,,killeshandra,,knockbride etc....drumalee are the biggest yo-yo team i have ever seen,,,1 good season always followed by 2 very bad season....yous aint got the players or passion to achieve anything at senior level... flakester (Cavan) - Posts: 20 - 30/08/2011 09:58:49 1022521 Link 0 |

I think Gowna will beat Lacken to stay senior and although it could be a while before they win another SFC I can see them staying senior, they have a few players who have given great service to the club but are at the end of their career. Gowna are still very good underage and if they can introduce a few young players each season along with players such as mckeever, pearson and maddens they are as good as most senior teams....after that its all about commitment. cavan4ever (Cavan) - Posts: 234 - 30/08/2011 11:26:18 1022657 Link 0 |

Flakester I think its a bit harsh to criticicse drumalee like you just have mate....you say they have no passion...they have won 2 intermediate championships in the last 4 years...admittedly that proves your yo yo point but it takes character to get back to where the got to. I agree that they dont have the players for sure but they do have the heart. Also they played 4 senior championship games this year- won 2 lost 2 so not that bad in fairness. mystic meg (Cavan) - Posts: 228 - 30/08/2011 13:35:25 1022820 Link 0 |

Mystic meg:that proves my point exactly the only meaningfull thing they have won has been at intermediate level which proves my point they are an intermediate team like the other teams i have mentioned.. aceofspades (Cavan) - Posts: 257 - 30/08/2011 16:20:51 1023048 Link 0 |

ace of spades....the other teams i had mentioned as your typical intermediate teams were ballyhaise,,crosserlough,,killeshandra,,knockbride etc.you missed my comment before that.......its good to see the rest of the other teams like castlerahan belturbet etc coming on and challenging instead of having the gaels,,mullahorn and gowna in the semi finals all the time,,,,i was merely commenting on queball 88 comment where he is saying drumalee are good enough to be in senior when everyone can see there a basic intermediate team,,,not near good enough to be a senior team... flakester (Cavan) - Posts: 20 - 30/08/2011 16:37:35 1023071 Link 0 |

It's some achievement for a small area like gowna to win 7 senior championships since 1980 the same number as the Gaels.I hope they will come good again as they are very passionate about football. marita (None) - Posts: 469 - 30/08/2011 21:30:52 1023491 Link 0 |
