Underage finals on the 3G

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Every kid wants to play in Breffni and I think when they get to a final they should be rewarded by running out under the big stand to the cheers of their parents and clubmates. It would appear that the new venue is the 3G pitch despite all the participating clubs imploring to play in Breffni proper. The 3G is a great place and is a great facility but for a final the games should be on the hallowed turf of the main pitch.

How surprising you ARE black or White

It's ok to question

Unlike you I don't whine and moan and spread gloom and doom

I will be going through the channels before Tuesday to try to get changes, I won't be howling abuse at the officials like you do!

I know that they are on, the question is are they on in 3G or have they been moved as I am well aware that all clubs have requested them to be moved as their young players are coming off bleeding from knees and elbows with the firm surface and synthetic grass.
Players of this age have tender skin and are getting cut and burned with this surface, also there is 2 points awarded for a free converted off the ground in order to encourage this skill (a very good idea) but it is much harder to rise the ball off this surface.

two games played, some quality frees scored from the ground as well. I could not find one lad bleeding and to tell you the truth like any other pitch one will get thw odd person bleeding but as I say none that I could see last night. Two more tonight so will keep a look out for blood caused from the surface.
By the way any youngsters I have asked what they think of the 3G pitch and they all had positive replies strange don't you think.
I know when I was a young lad it never bothered me where the match was once we got to the final and better if we won it.

ochonlir, maybe when you're bringing your proposal for the wee underagers to play on the hallowed turf to the county board you could give a shout out for the poor ladies footballers in the county aswell!? SENIOR ladies teams aren't allowed into the main pitch, let alone underage!! the senior county team has a tough enough job getting in! then rushed out as soon as they do get in!

par example, a certain seanuirinn (moderator feel free to replace john's name with 'breifne caretaker'!!) after a recent all ireland qualifier game telling one member of senior ladies county team to hurry up if she intended having a shower as there were mens club games being played there a number of hours later. (judging by gowna's chronic performance against castlerahan that day they coulda done with some inspiration, maybe sean shouldn't have rushed the lady out!!) i can only imagine him trying to speak to seanie johnston or james reilly in the same manner!!

What a shame Clonee that you should pick that particular day of all day's. SUPER SUNDAY. The day in question we had five matches your match was brought forward to 12pm so that I could have the dressing rooms and the park ready and yes I did ask you and a few others would you mind if you were having your shower to do so as I wanted to get the area ready. You were after all just standing outside chatting and this could have been done after you had your shower. I am sure you realise I was in Breffni park from 6-30 am that morning and got home at 2300 that night yes thats when I got home. I did not ask for much when I requested you and a few others to have your shower. By the way when the last girl left the dressing room players and stewards were coming in for the next match that is facts.
If you get a chance maybe you might talk with those who have been involved with ladies football several years and ask them how I helped them over the years. You will be surprised and you will wish you did not make this post. I will take no offence from it however.

Fair play to you sean.

I would like to know what money the ladies clubs provide to Cavan County Board for the up keep of the park and what money they give there own mens clubs for the use of their facilities.

They always cry that they dont be treated the same as the men but they dont own any pitches and should be pay rent to use pitches for training and games.

The 3G pitch is excellent for under-age football. It gives a 100% true bounce and allows for free-flowing games. The kids than may get hurt on the 3G pitch will get knocks on grass, too. As for free-taking off the ground? It's a skill to be practised and any shortcomings seem to be down to that as opposed to the pitch.

For me the bounce or the free taking is not the issue, it's letting the kids have the honour of playing on Breffni park. As for the ladies I hope they work something out.

U12, U13 and U14 kids care only about playing football and , possibly, winning the trophy. They do not care about the "honour" of Breffni park.

I was at an U16 game in Breffni a couple of weeks back and the pitch definitely adversely affected the game.

You obviously don't know these young players they crave to play in Breffni. I remember playing there as a young lad the excitement of running out on the pitch the Old stand the cheer while running out the tunnel. It is very disappointing that these lads missed the chance and many of them may never get another chance.
