County Minor Team Manager......

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I am sure that Gary Donoghue and Dermot mc Cabe will do a good job as Cavan Minor Managers. Who nominated them anyway?

the executive board i i wud imagine, which prob ad the overwhelming majority of the clubs in order to ratify this appointment... tink it can only be good for cavan football to see big Dermot back, and hopefully they will get der hands on some silverware dis year, after it eluding dem for so many years...

822076 Now that it approaching official, I have to say I'm disappointed with the choice. Another former player from the recent past, with little experience of coaching, certainly nothing successful anyway, and a pal from his own club to help him. Hardly the most professional combination in the world. Looks like the CC are fast tracking Big D for a bigger role in the future. Will they ever learn?

Agree with you ondforty. Why did the County Board Chairman get involved on the election process?? Its nothing to do with him. Its a Minor Board decision and always has been..

ondforty, i would have to disagree with you there...

Most of the current group of managers that are doing well are all recent players with very little coaching experience. Mcgeeny in Kildare, Ryan in longford, Fitzpatrick in Louth, Ryan in Wexford, Walsh in Sligo, O'Donnell in Roscommon, Davy Fitz in Waterford and even Cunihan in Cork

Ponger, you haven't done your homework very well. Most of the people you listed did have relevant experience and they are all managing senior teams, not minors. The point I have been making is that to be successful at senior level, you need to have been successful at minor / u21 level. And to be successful at minor county level you need a proven manager of youngsters, not a former player, even if he was exceptional as Dermot undoubtedly was. Anyway, what's done is done. Another lost opportunity in my view, but that's all it is…..my view.

Its a disgrace that we havent won a Minor Title since 1974..No offence to Mickey Graham or Dermot McCabe but they are not qualified enough to bring young players on.. That job should have been given to JJ Reilly or Finian Farrell from the Gaels.. Their proven track record with underage footballers this past 10-15 years proves they could handle the job

Oh Dear, I find myself actually feeling sorry for the new managers. They are under SERIOUS pressure to deliver success, especially with the manner in which they were appointed.

...by that sort of analysis only 5-6 managers are "doing well" in the last 10 years...bah humbug

Posters are not putting down Gary and dermot, more the process by which they were appointed. Interviews were held two weeks ago and each candidate was to have their management team in place. Gary and dermot have yet to announce their team and many of the other candidates refused to join their team when asked by the county board. Everybody hopes the cavan minor team does well next year. The whole process has not helped.
