Hyland doesn't expect trouble

Terry Hyland insists there is no bad blood between Cavan and Monaghan.

The neighbouring counties face off in the first round of the Ulster SFC on Sunday, May 24 in what will be their first meeting since their ill-tempered McKenna Cup clash in January. Four players were sent off, including Cavan midfielder Gearoid McKiernan who was subsequently hit with a two-month ban for comments he allegedly made to opponent Drew Wylie.

"I can't see why there would be or should be (any animosity)," the Cavan manager is quoted in the Irish Daily Star.

"We've always had flare-ups in Gaelic football, teams have always got on and got over it. Usually what happens on the field stays on the field, and is sorted out then and there.

"It's only sometimes when the media gets hold of something and likes to fan it on, it grows little legs and tails. I'd have two or three from Monaghan who call into me (Hyland runs a hardware store in Ballyhaise), so there is no bad feeling."
