New Cavan Gaels boss Peter Canavan
Peter Canavan was impressed by Cavan in their Ulster SFC preliminary round defeat of Armagh last Sunday.
Cavan's 1-15 to 1-11 victory has set up an Ulster SFC quarter-final local derby clash with Canavan's Fermanagh side at Brewster Park on Sunday, June 16.
"They won by four points, but they could have easily won by double scores," the Erne County boss told the Fermanagh Herald.
"I thought it was a competent performance. They were always in control of the game and, in Eugene Keating and Martin Dunne, they had outstanding performers.
"Cavan obviously had their homework done and stifled the main threat that Armagh posed, so you would have to give credit to Cavan in the way they dealt with Armagh and never allowed them to play to their strengths."
The Tyrone great admitted that Fermanagh will have their work cut out to beat their neighbours next month.
"We had two tough games against them last year, so we know what they're capable of on the day. There was a 10-minute spell in one of those games where they went and hit us for 3-1 or 3-2 without reply.
"They're a match for anyone and, from what I witnessed on Sunday, it will take a very good performance to beat them."
