Bailieborough Shamrocks Club Notes

May 14, 2013
Bailieborough Shamrocks 0-14 Drung 0-3
The senior team had a good win over Drung in Division 2 of the league on Sunday. Conditions underfoot were far from ideal following heavy rain in the preceding days and a considerable amount of activity on the pitch over the weekend but to the relief of all referee Martin Brady gave the go ahead. Drung made the early running and opened the scoring but with the aid of the breeze Bailieborough dominated the scoring for the rest of the half and chalked up 6 unanswered points. They went on to lead by 8 - 2 at the break.
The second half followed the same pattern with Drung launching an early onslaught. However thanks to some resolute defending and brave goalkeeping from James Cooney it yielded only one point. Having put in a stalwart performance, James was unfortunate to suffer a broken ankle late in the game which necessitated a break in play whilst he was being attended. On the resumption the Shamrocks forwards kept the score board ticking over and they eventually ran out winners by 14 points to 3.

This win sees Bailieborough consolidate their position in second place in the table which is great boost for this young team The next game is an away game against Laragh in Stradone on Saturday evening next.
Training continues on Tuesday and Friday nights at 8 pm - all players senior and junior please attend.
Players, management and club officials would like to wish James well and hope that he has a speedy recovery.

Under 16s

The under 16s had Templeport as visitors on Thursday evening last. The team put up a good performance and were deservedly leading at half time. However Templeport justified their status as table toppers and clawed back the lead to win by 5 points in the end. The management can take heart from this match as it was the best performance of the season and the team is continuing to improve with each game. Training on Monday nights and game again this Thursday - see fixtures for venue.

Ladies

The Division 4 Ladies took on Killygarry in St Anne's Park last Sunday morning. In what were less than ideal playing conditions they came away with an impressive win over their opponents. Tessa Hanley got the Shamrocks off to a good start with two well taken points followed by one from Gemma O'Reilly. Killygarry were quick to respond with two over the crossbar. A goal from Lisa Cullen twenty minutes in gave the Bailieboro girls the encouragement needed to keep pushing forward. Michelle Crosby edged the ball into the net just before the half time whistle leaving Bailieboro ahead 2-03 to 0-02. Killygarry came out stronger in the second half quickly scoring a good point followed by a goal. A goal at the other end from Kim Kierans kept up the confidence of the home side. Killygarry scored another couple of nice points and just narrowly put a few wide. Three more well take points from Tessa Hanley saw the Shamrocks Ladies over the line with a comfortable win. Final score Bailieboro 3-06 Killygarry 1-05.
In Round 4 of the League next weekend the A team are away to Ballymachugh while the B's take on Mountnugent at home.
