Ladies' Football
Our under-12s have training every Tuesday evening between 6.30 and 7.30. The turn out has been very encouraging. Thanks to all who helped to launch this initiative and to the coaches who attend every Tuesday evening. Ladies Football Committee- Chairman Finian Farrell, Secretary Noreen Tully along with coaches Sophie Graham, Mark Leddy, Peter Sexton and Rebecca Neligan. At local level our team have played Cuchullains, Mullahoran and Swanlinbar. Our players also took part in a blitz for newly founded clubs in Croke Park recently. They performed very well on the fabled sward and won three of their games. Well done to all.
World Record Attempt
Cavan Gaels held a special Club Day in Terry Coyle Park on Saturday last. The world record attempt at Piggy-Backing was successful. There was a very big turn-out on the day and all merrily took part in the attempt. Thanks to all who walked, cantered, trotted, ran or sprinted!! Thanks also to Michael Mooney and his able committee for their initiative and drive in seeing this project through and to all those who helped out in any way. There were also various events for young and old. Those who have cards in conjunction with the event and have not handed them in yet are asked to do so as soon as possible. On that night in Terry Coyle Park there was a celebration of the achievements of our minor and adult players in 2009 and 2010. Medals were presented to the members of the following winning teams- 2009 senior league, 2010 senior league, 2010 junior B championship and the 2010 minor league and championship double. The medal presentations were made by Tom Reilly, Chairman Cavan County Board, Paddy Reilly, Chairman Cavan Youth Board and former Dublin great Charlie Redmond. Johnny O Hanlon, Cavan Gaels Chairman introduced proceedings and Michael Mooney was MC for the night. And no one was safe from his verbal volleys!! Well-known Cavan boxer Andy Murray was also present. The club minor player for 2010 was Paul Graham and he received the John Fee Shield from his father, Mickey, Chairman Cavan Gaels Under-Age committee.
Arus an Uachtaráin Social Initiative
A number of our club members visited Arus an Uachtaráin recently as part of Martin McAleese's Social Initiative. They were very impressed by the reception afforded all the invitees.
